Restoring The Church

Restoring the Church web ministry’s purpose prior to COVID 19 pandemic was to increase the awareness of why small churches were dying and to point the leadership of those churches to resources and ideas that should help them become healthy again.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic began to wreak havoc, churches were seeing attendance plummet. Some of the biggest denominations in the United States, have experienced steep declines in membership. Many of the large church buildings which remain open, their congregations have become smaller and aged. In some cases, churches have closed.

Even prior to the pandemic many pastors were accepting this decline and making statements such as ” I think we’re still a healthy church, but honestly, I don’t really expect us to grow.”

The effect of COVID 19 pandemic has drastically increased this decline both in time and severity. I have a desire to help any church, any denomination!

I am sure there are exceptions, however the major reason for the decline are that many churches today have the same issues as the seven churches addressed in the “Messages to the Seven Churches” by Jesus in the Book of Revelation.

#1 Reason – Left First Love

Many churches in the United States once were on fire for God; they were passionate about the work of God. However, for some reason they have departed from God’s mission. They, like the church at Ephesus, left their first love. “Restoring the Church” web ministry points out that “Christ Jesus” must be the focus of every church’s ministry.

Why?

Rev 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love (kjv)

#2 Reason – Luke Warm

Jesus tells the church at Laodicea “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

Therefore be zealous and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.  To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

Repent & Return

How can a church be restored? Remember,  Repent and Return to Christ!

Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. (kjv)

Symptoms of Problem

Prior COVID-19 Pandemic

Recent studies prior COVID-19 pandemic discovered that 80 to 85 percent of established churches in the United States have either plateaued or declining. Resulting in about 3,000 to 4,000 churches closing every year. In 1920 there were 27 churches for every 10,000 US citizens; by 1996, there were only 11 churches for every 10,000.

Most protestant churches the US are reaching less total new converts today than they did in the 1950s, when the population of the United States was less than half of the current population.

About

Restoring The Church

Initially Restoring the Church ORGanization was established to call attention to the growing problem of decay and decline of the small community churches of America, plus provide support (tools) and encouragement for their recovery.

Below are comments on how prior to the pandemic,  churches of America were becoming the seven churches mentioned in the Biblical book of Revelation.   However the COVID 19 pandemic has become a top priority of this site, please spend some time looking at COVID 19 pages.

Yet, also please view the failures of the “Seven Churches”.

The original purpose of Restoring-the-Church.ORG is about encouraging churches to examine themselves and if their church has “left first love” or another reason identified by Christ in his address to the Seven Churches in Revelation they must REPENT and return to CHRIST!

Rev 2:4-5 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love [5] Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. (kjv)

Restoring the Church to its First Love

A major factor in restoring the church to health is  about  acknowledging their failure and  returning to their first love  through repenting.  For a church to be restored it requires the leadership to first examine their own hearts.  Here

A New Normal

What is The New Normal? Now church leaders face a pressing question: What will church look like going forward? What is The New Normal? Some think we can return to the old normal with the focus on an “in-person gathering” on Sunday morning. Some churches started or expanded a digital ministry which they viewed would …
